This is looking like a good test...

This team is definitely not a push-over. If not for back-to-back 3's by Stute this could look worse. Took me a while but finally got this playing on ESPN+.

Why has Scottie been on the bench so long?

Why can't they get defensive rebounds?

Why does Thomas continue to shoot when he's 0-for the season ?

So many questions.

It may pay big dividends in the second half, but Pippen and Wright only played 15 and 16 minutes in the first half. Stute only 11.
Our bench played 43 minutes. Texas state's bench played 27.

This same Texas St. team was outscored 52-22 in the 2nd half a couple of nights ago against LSU (as mentioned in another thread) ... let's hope for a repeat of that performance.

With Robbins out, we are not a big team. We have only one player taller than 6'-8" otherwise, and that is QMB, who is who he is, and probably isn't going to be a major contributor to our next good team. It does appear that our two best rebounders are Frank and Mann, both of whom come off the bench (we did better once they were on the floor).

Thomas has to shoot, because that is what he does - if he doesn't shoot the three against non-conference teams, why would we assume that he would automatically get his shot back against conference opponents? Thomas is a three point specialist, if he cannot find his shot he is going to get lost among the plethora of guards we have this season. He will continue to shoot it until CJS decides it isn't working. PT becomes even more scarce once Chatman returns.

I don't know that I would call 15 and 16 minutes "only". That works out to 30 and 32 mpg respectively, which is more than Wright averaged last season and only a couple fewer minutes than Pippen got in conference play on average. It is more an issue that we only got a few minutes out of QMB despite his having no foul issues and having no other true centers available.

If Pippen plays only 75% of the game, it will be less than he did last year. Our starters played a whole lot less than theirs did, anyway. 57 to 73

We do not have good or at least consistent shooters. All look forced. We don't have a Jenkins, Fisher, Foster, Draud, Cox etc......until our players are relaxed enough and can make outside shots on a more consistent basis times will be tough. Scottie comes the closest.

Scottie had 30 and it looks like he was giving about 50% effort until the end when he had a burst. Anyone else amused by Shan Foster's goofy humor? I was kicking myself that his dry, goofy stuff was making me laugh so much. He seems like a really good guy, someone who would be very enjoyable to sit next to and watch a game.

So? it is an OOC game, the 2nd of the season. 32 minutes is more than enough for Pippen in this game - it isn't like we are playing UK. Our starters should be playing a whole lot less than theirs, given that we only have 4 or 5 returning players from last season who played any minutes. CJS absolutely needs to be determining who he can rely upon and these are the games to do it. I'd be disappointed if he was playing Pippen 38 minutes against this team when we don't know who of Lawrence, DeZonie, Daniels and Thomas are going to be a part of the rotation - when Chatman returns it might be only 1 or 2 of them so they need PT to determine who that is.

We hit 44 percent from floor and well from 3. It was defensive rebounding that seemed most problematic no matter who was in.

Stute has a really good stroke from 3 and has his confidence rolling right now--I think last night worked out close to perfect as far as playing time- lots of guys played in the first half and when we needed it pippen showed he had an extra gear . I really liked the way CJS rotated the lineup. I won't name names but this is the first year in the last several that we dont have a player that i cringe whenever they get the ball

Am I starting to get the feeling Gabe Dorsey is going to redshirt? He didn't play last night.

Dorsey played 4 minutes last night. Shot one time(a 3 pt) and missed. He also had one turnover.

6-6/215 is good size for a wing. Hope he improves. Playing the defending Sun Belt champ isn't high school ball. Our next two opponents won a total of 42 games last year, so they are not chopped liver either.

Funny you say that. I was thinking the same thing in the first and second half last night. It is obvious so far who the top players are, but when a sub comes in you don't just go "there goes the 10 point lead."
