The score was only 20-18 in 9 overtimes? I would think in a game that went nine overtime’s that’s the score would be in the 60’s or 70’s!

They've changed the rules (in reaction to the Ark-Ole Miss 7 OT game) After the first 2, then teams go for ONLY a 2-point conversion each OT

That being the case, I would think there would still be a lot or touchdowns scored and failed conversions, which would still make for a high-scoring game.

I watched the game and as I remember it they ended regulation tied 10-10. The first two overtimes resulted in each team trading FGs to get to 16-16. The rest of the OTs (of the 2 point conversion variety) resulted in no scores until the 8th OT when both sides successfully scored a conversion to make it 18-18. The 9th OT Illinois converted and PSU did not.

I could not decide if the defenses were good or the offenses were bad, but a fun game to watch none-the-less.

There are NO TDs or FGs. JUST 2-point conversions. Period. Play 25 OTs. The most that can possibly be scored is 100. Total both teams.

First two overtime periods are the standard start at the 25 yard line get what points you can get, though in the 2nd OT you must try a 2 point conversion if you score a touchdown. All overtimes after that are just 2 point conversion attempts.

Spent more time walking to the other end of the field than running the play, but the premise makes sense and it ended relatively quickly.

The college football overtime now somewhat resembles the NHL overtime/shootout scenario. The NHL has a 5 minute 4on4 overtime period. If the score is still tied they have an alternating shootout of 5 If it’s still tied yet again, then it’s an alternating shot until a team goes 1 up.
The college overtime allows for regular alternating possessions twice. If still tied alternating 2pt possessions until someone (ala Illinois) either scores or gets a stop.

Regular season NHL overtime is 3 on 3 now, not 4 on 4.

With all the veteran players the Preds let go the last two seasons, They won't be getting to OT very much. So far they are losing most games in regulation. People were selling weeknight tickets for $9 recently.

A tie isn't the worst thing in the world IMO, if everyone is so concerned about game length. You know, if it was acceptable in great grandpa's day, it should be acceptable in the age of the "participation trophy".
