LSU to require vaccination or negative PCR test to attend games
They become the first SEC school to do so.

I'm putting my vaccination card in my tickets envelope. I hope VU does this.
Can't scamper or slither...but I used to swim.

But in Alabama, the legislature made it against the law to require vaccinations or proof thereof.

That should hopefully help reduce COVID deaths in the Baton Rouge area.

Louisiana is indeed swamped with cases.
But this should also alleviate the pressure on the healthcare system statewide since patients are getting distributed to wherever they have a available beds.
80k fans packed into concourses and stadium bathrooms could indeed add to the rising level of cases. From what I understand, the risk of exposure drops dramatically when outdoors. It's those cattle car choke points that are concerning.

Hope they figure out how to handle this at the turnstiles in time for the crowd to be seated before the second half kickoff. People waiting in line won't have much patience for windbags and blowhards.
But it's the right move nonetheless.

Talking politics on this message board is now OK?

This is going to be the fascinating part, particularly given the difficulty in hiring seasonal and part-time labor (or any labor) right now.

It is sound public health and I suspect VU is trying very hard to develop a similar policy - kind of late but not too late. We will see: I have my papers ready for game 1 of the Clark Lea era - so ready to cheer the team on regardless of COVID policy.

Re: LSU to require vaccination or negative PCR test to attend games
About a week ago I started a thread with the point being that we weren't going to have a normal football season because of Covid and it was shut down because it was said to be political.
The point was made then that if it's not about Vanderbilt football, it can't be discussed.

Not wanting to die of Covid is a medical issue.

It is really sad that basic medical facts about a disease are now "political."

Unfortunately not. The legitimacy of federal, state and local governments' making medical decisions for the people (accompanied by underlying disagreements among doctors regarding the efficacy of masks, vaccinations and lockdowns in combating the virus) is as political as it gets.bernstml19 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 11:11 pmI think he was kidding.

Except a University setting requirements to enter an entertainment venue is not a federal, state or local government. They're not making any medical decisions for anyone. If you want to attend, you can either a) be vaccinated or b) prove you're not currently sick with a negative covid test. It leaves room for people who choose to not be vaccinated to attend the game as long as they're in good health.nyyankeeDore wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:32 amUnfortunately not. And the overwhelming majority of physicians agree that masking is beneficial at reducing the spread of the virus. More than 90% and probably closer to 95-99% of physicians agree on this. It's like looking at a product that has a 0.5/10 rating compared to a 9.5/10 rating and then choosing the first.
And the vaccines are a medical marvel. The science behind them are incredibly sound, safe and efficacious. Moderna has already started a trial on an mRNA vaccine for HIV, and I expect that other vaccines will be revamped using this technology (like MMR and varicella which use live attenuated virus currently).
None of this is political. The science is real. The science is sound.

I hope Vandy institutes a similar policy.
1) It will benefit the health and well-being of our community
2) The only thing worse than having our stadium constantly overrun with opposing fans is the thought of having our stadium overrun with opposing fans who are contagious with an incurable and deadly disease.
