Don't blame him based on who has gotten playing time and which pitchers are returning ... plus Jack Leiter may be ahead of Becker based on potential.

But then Becker has great potential, the 31st ranked high school senior in 2018 according to www.perfectgame.org

https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Pla ... ?ID=437175

Only Kumar Rocker was ranked above Becker among the 2018 Vanderbilt recruits who did not turn pro.

However, I don't see how Austin can be immediately eligible at Texas Tech. This NCAA "Four-Year Transfer Guide" indicates football, basketball, baseball and men's hockey players must sit out a year unless some other exception is met ... such as "your sport is dropped."

Which is located in Buttock, Texas. Actually it's a happening place: they've even got a disc golf course.

Don't know what you mean by "FA"? He's a free agent? What is this, the NBA?

When you write, "no athletic" and "4 innings" are you suggesting Exception 4 (see page 16)?
I don't know if Becker had an athletic scholarship, but the exception cites that you must meet ALL THREE of these conditions:
1. You were not recruited by the certifying school (Texas Tech). - Perhaps Becker contacted Tech.
2. You have not received any athletically related financial assistance. - Perhaps that is true, I don't know. I thought that despite spreading out 11.7 scholarships among 35 players each one of those 35 must get at least 1/4 or some small percentage partial scholarship.
3. You have not competed for any previous institution.... - Four innings may be very few, but facing even one batter in an official game would be considered competing.

"switched conferences"?
Switching conferences should have no bearing because the only reference I see is: "In some cases, conference transfer rules may be more restrictive than NCAA rules." It does not say that some conference transfer rules may be more lenient than NCAA rules.

I'm not saying that Becker MUST sit out a year. I'm saying that the rules as I've found them do not indicate he can play immediately. If you have something pertinent, please spell it out in complete sentences with reference to the specific NCAA language.

The only other thing I can think of is that these 2018-2019 rules may have been revised for 2019-2020. I would like to see the new guidelines.

The NCAA passed a rule that if a player did not receive athletic money he does not have to sit out a year. he threw 4 innings wanted to transfer.... Willis transferred the UCONN probably two more next week

What about the Transfer Portal ...

Post by Versus75 »

... of which we hear so much regarding basketball players?

I've seen more than one story about University of Kentucky players going through this process to facilitate a transfer. Here is one:

https://www.aseaofblue.com/2019/6/15/18 ... 020-season

Where is the news about Vanderbilt players and the Transfer Portal?

BTW, thanks for linking us to a specific NCAA story explaining this change. :(

I found THIS from CBSSports which states the NCAA has relaxed its transfer rules:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... ituations/

This segment may apply to Becker/Willis if they get only Need-Based financial aid from Vanderbilt and are considered (technically) Walk-Ons:

"Walk-ons who receive financial aid and non-recruited walk-ons can also leave without sitting out. The new rules go into effect for student-athletes who transfer to new schools this fall."

Vanderbilt probably does not have to publicly list which players are getting athletic aid, but these new rules may force us to alter the financial planning for our players.

FA = Financial Aid

Not sure why you guys are so worried about it, happens all the time. Becker is a Red Raider not a Commodore

" Vanderbilt probably does not have to publicly list which players are getting athletic aid, but these new rules may force us to alter the financial planning for our players."

why would a player transferring force you to alter the financial planning for our players?

Player A could be FA his freshman year and player B could be athletic... the next year it could be flipped, some players pay their own tuition.....

Also the rule for athletic money is that IF you getting any athletic money the minimum is 25% You can give 11.7 players a full ride if you want.

The NCAA reserves the right to basically do what they want..... Becker can play immediately , he was getting FA .... the 4 innings statement was me saying, if you threw 4 innings you would want to transfer as well.
