Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
Remember 16 days ago when we had a 18 game win streak and were ranked #2? Seems like forever ago as we have since endured the worst stretch in a decade. Looking at the back loaded schedule, added to deficiencies across the board, and I don't see how we win very many SEC series. Florida is in a similar position, so this weekend is critical to both squads who are usually competing for the top spot instead of trying to survive.

We are unranked in the new D-1 Baseball ranking today.Commodoredave wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:38 am Remember 16 days ago when we had a 18 game win streak and were ranked #2? Re: Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
Over a three-season stretch we are looking at the possibility of the following streaks having ended:
* Three-pointers made in basketball (January 2020)
* Never having lost to an FCS/I-AA program in football (September 2021)
* The second longest active streak of having made the NCAA tournament in baseball (TBD)
Pass the cyanide.

In Sept. 1979, Pancoast lost to the Citadel. 27-14AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:17 am Over a three-season stretch we are looking at the possibility of the following streaks having ended:

But freaking out is still valid at this time.
Basketball is making a comeback. Both genders. So there is that.

Re: Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
The Citadel was not I-AA at the time. I've done enough research on this topic that I actually got VU sports information to change their media notes on it.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:27 amIn Sept. 1979, Pancoast lost to the Citadel. 27-14AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:17 am Over a three-season stretch we are looking at the possibility of the following streaks having ended:

They lost to Presbyterian two weeks before they beat Pancoast, so they might have well been D-3.AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:22 amThe Citadel was not I-AA at the time. ...and Baseball America. When was the last time that happened? (#24 in Perfect Game)
P.S. USA Today Coaches' poll has the old logo, so does that really count?

I think 2018 was the last time we were unranked.

Re: Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
Di ranks Auburn 17 off of their series win against us. So we got knocked out of the rankings by losing a series on the road to a ranked team who gets ranked because they beat us. Makes no sense. Of course, all irrelevant because there is a lot of baseball to be played.

"Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy"
Possibly, but last year 9 SEC teams were in the NCAA Tournament. We have enough good pitchers and position players to make the 64-team field, but we need to reverse the current (somewhat longstanding) trend.

I believe George MacIntyre was the coach at that time. Pancoast's last season was '78.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:42 amThey lost to Presbyterian two weeks before they beat Pancoast, so they might have well been D-3.AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:22 amThe Citadel was not I-AA at the time. SEC teams in d1baseball rankings
RNK . TEAM ......... W-L .... SECbaseball1234 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 1:21 pm Di ranks Auburn 17 off of their series win against us. 1 ... Tennessee ... 31- 1 .. 12-0
2 ... Arkansas .... 23- 7 ... 8-4
13 .. Georgia ..... 24- 8 ... 8-4
15 .. LSU ......... 23- 9 ... 7-5
17 .. Auburn ...... 22-10 ... 7-5
23 .. Florida ..... 21-11 ... 5-7
24 .. Alabama ..... 22-12 ... 7-5
25 .. Ole Miss .... 19-12 ... 4-8
NR .. Vanderbilt .. 22- 9 ... 5-7
Who is doing the math at d1baseball.com?
I can see if you want to give LSU an edge over Vanderbilt based on conference record. And Auburn just won a series against the 'Dores.
Does Florida get a bump because its record included a recent 2-1 versus Arkansas? Then Alabama shouldn't get credit for building a 7-5 SEC record against Ole Miss and worse SEC teams.
Speaking of Ole Miss: What's with a 19-12 team with a 4-8 conference record doing in the Top 25? Its best non-conference series: A 1-1 neutral site split with Texas Tech.
That being said, I would drop Vanderbilt out of the rankings if we lose the Florida series.

Not so fast, my friend. Presby 10-1 in regular season in '79 and won South Atlantic Conference!

Re: Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
You guys are killing me. We just came off going to back to back World Series Championship series. So we are having a down year. It happens. Still a lot of baseball to be played, and if by some chance we don't make the tourney, Corbs is allowed a pass. Step back from the ledge please. Vandyboys baseball is going to be ok, I promise. I honestly think Vandy fans would not be freaking out so much if UT wasn't so good. That is the knife that sticks and makes this down time feel worse than it is.

It doesn't matter who The Citadel lost to, they were not an FCS team.

Re: SEC teams in d1baseball rankings
That Rogers guy hates Vanderbilt because his team has been to the CWS like 200 times and never won. We've won 2 titles in like 5 trips. We've also curb-stomped A&M, his school, multiple times. Everyone gets a bump in their rating for playing UT but Vandy, even though we played them as well as anyone and might have even won a game if not for those GD lights.Versus75 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 3:22 pmRNK . Re: Tournament Streak is in Jeopardy
D1B and Baseball America were the only two services out of many to not rank us. BA at least also didn't have Ole Miss ranked, biased D1 baseball did.
