Re: SEC tourney pitching

I would throw Little Wednesday and maybe ask Rocker to go 80 pitches on Thursday. It's not Corbin's style, but I don't want to see Leiter this week. Also, we need to limit CJ's innings behind the plate. He was our best hitter a month ago and has been through two lengthy 0'fer slumps. I suspect the w...

Re: A&M's Rob Childress fired

I guess the deal had just run it's course with Childress, but you better have a guy in mind if you fire a man who was as successful as he was.

UT is going to give Vitello a big raise, and make some big investments in baseball. I'd be shocked if he left, though I would like to see it.

Re: Why is David Price

The Dodgers are loaded and David is nearing the end. Taking last year off did no favors for a 35 yr old player, and he isn't 100% healthy. He has been good when given an inning in the past week, so I do hope he gets in the rotation- even though I am not a Dodgers fan. His contract runs through 2022,...

Re: Young Injured

Ugh. Corbin said the MRI revealed some damage, though "could have been worse." Sounds like he's out for at least a couple of weeks as we begin postseason. Having him available for the regional in two weeks sounds a bit optimistic at this point.

Re: Have We Recruited the next Rocker Or Leiter?

We are witnessing “Haley’s Comet” in Rocker and Leiter. It probably won’t be in my lifetime that I see two Vandy pitchers like those two again. On the same team, perhaps. I do recall in the past thinking we'd never have another Price, Gray, Beede, Fulmer, yet we keep getting elite guys to school.

Re: Ole Miss stadium etc?

I have a friend who has a left field setup, and it was fantastic to be out there in that atmosphere Friday night. I sat behind home plate a few years ago, which wasn't as much fun, but still very nice for spring baseball. There are a lot of really nice ones around this league, and it is fun to follo...

Re: Have We Recruited the next Rocker Or Leiter?

Nobody has the next Rocker and Leiter. We have some talented arms, and we'll have some guys get drafted in the top 10 again soon, but those two are just special.

Re: Troy Laneve

I really thought Bulger was never going to leave the lineup, and I still think he is going to be a star. However, he isn't the best against RHP. Not sure about Cooper. He came into the year with a career .340 avg and some unfortunate injuries. This season has been both a disappointment and a loss, b...

Re: Tough Job

By the time Maldanado came in, we were down 3 and he was ready to go. I agree with the whole premise of the thread. Corbs gives guys time to work out of jams during the regular season with and eye on preparation. The reality of today is that we do not have the depth or reliable pitching to go all th...

Re: Today’s Implications vs ut

I despise the double elimination format of the SEC tournament. The NCAA tourney format is basically already settled, so winning the SEC tourney is not a big deal. My distaste for the SEC tourney is on the wear and tear of your pitching staff. If you don’t get a first round bye, you may have to play...

We're a shoe-in to host and in good shape for a national seed despite not playing our best lately.

Re: Today’s Implications vs ut

The rainout was almost as bad as a loss for our hopes of winning the SEC. Winning at Ole MS is tough enough with our without Leiter, but now we must win one more than either UT or Arkansas over the last two combined weekends. I'm of the opinion that this was a failure of our admin and coaches to id...

Re: Berkwich

That was a promising outing yesterday. He also had a clean inning vs MSU a few weeks back, and given the shaky status of the pen at the moment, I believe he'll get some more looks. Fisher just needs to throw strikes, which is easier said than done apparently. He has only given up 1 hit in 8 innings,...

Re: Ethan Smith?

I've been hoping he would get healthy and on track late in the season because we are light on reliable pitching headed towards postseason, and Smith has the most experience of the guys who could have a chance to step up.

It's Baseball

Rocker allows 3HR
Bradfield strikes out 3 times
Carter Young makes 2 errors.

I guess it's good to get all of that out of your system in one awful night.

Re: Any word on our inured players ...

The announcers on Tuesday were talking about Kolwyk being involved in fielding drills. No reason to rush him back into the batting cage with a hamate fracture, but he shouldn't be too far off. It also appears as if the plan is to have Spencer Jones in the OF when they are comfortable letting him thr...

Re: LSU's Jaden Hill out for season with UCL tear

History has shown that those headed for TJ fare rather well in the draft. Think Buehler at #24, and JT Ginn got a $2.9m signing bonus last year, among others. The problem for Hill is he has a history of arm trouble and a relatively short track record to go on. The stuff is there, and perhaps the ups...
