Re: ---> I MISS ROY SKINNER ! ! ! <---

But they do have a recent national championship. I’d settle for that.

Re: ---> I MISS ROY SKINNER ! ! ! <---

I don’t know. The problem with attributing lack of student interest to selective admissions and a national student body is the fact that certain other universities combine these same characteristics with packed arenas and huge enthusiasm for the basketball team. Duke and Virginia readily come to mind.

Re: OT: Poll: Resolved: I wish we'd never hired James Franklin

Here’s another vote for Franklin. For three years, everyone (me included) LOVED what Vanderbilt football had become—virtually overnight. For a brief and shining moment, one could don a Vanderbilt cap in the fall and walk with a swagger that said, “Hell yes, I’m a Vandy fan.” Otherwise I’m afraid I h...

Re: Come on Predators don’t play “Rocky Top”

Have lived in eight states, in all of which identification with the flagship state university on the part of the vast majority of the population is just the way it works. No point in complaining or protesting. It starts for most kids in grade school (or just before) when they first become interested...

First and goal at the one

So I’m thinking, hand it to Patrick Smith a time or two. At that point in the game he was proving very, very hard to stop, and we only needed a yard. So of course they did everything but. Go figure.

That was the University of Virginia at Wise, a small school which compares with the “real” UVA like UT-Martin compares with UT.

Unbelievably dumb to expect Little to pitch his way out of that situation. That run is on our coaches.

Re: SEC hate

I think the above-mentioned (but avoided) private school/academic issues have a lot to do with it. There are reams of “good ol’ boys” (and girls) in the fan bases of all the state schools, some of them alums and probably more of them sidewalk alums; relatively few such folk attend or embrace Vanderb...

Rain delay in Omaha

I’m not expecting it, but a rainout today through tomorrow would really help our pitching situation.

Re: Mascots: Commodore vs Pirate, who would win?

Unfortunately (in this instance) our particular commodore was not a military man. He’s a nice fit for another definition of “commodore”: “the senior captain of a shipping line.” In fact, as a “Robber Baron” he was considered something of a pirate himself!
