Re: OT (presumably): Oregon and Washington going to the Big Ten
I actually thought about Rice and Tulane but their athletics do feel a notch below even though I would like a reason to go to New Orleans. I also left off GaTech which some may want to include. I'm more interested to invite the service academies and I did think about them as well. But I also like th...

Re: OT (presumably): Oregon and Washington going to the Big Ten
National magnolia league time.... Vandy, Duke, Wake, Northwestern, Cal, Stanford, BC. UNC and UVA feel a little different but they'd make more sense than not for a number of reasons. Then convince Notre Dame to join as the conference would be good enough that the champion would likely be part of the...

I haven't paid much if any attention to this but was the expectation that everything would be completed before the home opener?

Re: Chase Burns in the portal
I am just glad he is leaving UT because he is a good pitcher and that loss hurts their team. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but on the surface, this appears to be a rather surprising move. I heard Vitello say that they have known about this for a while (not sure how long that is)...

Re: Vandy-Xavier Thread
I'm likely crazy, but, looking at the big picture and a real shortage of offensive talent, maybe we were lucky to have as good a season as we did. We are in the bottom tier of the SEC in most offensive statistics and our LOB numbers seemed bad to me. Who is our hitting coach and should we be shoppi...

Next year's roster
I don't know when the covid additional year finally expires. Are any of the seniors eligible to come back? Assuming the best of them will be leaving regardless. What about the juniors? Assuming Bradfield is gone. Not sure what our pitching depth looks like for next year but would like to see Owen an...

Re: Support for a 9-game SEC slate is reportedly waning
There are too many creampuffs on the sec calendar. I'd rather they go 3+6, require one power 5 non conference opponent, and then only two cream puff games each of which have to be played before middle of October. For Vandy yes it hurts our chances of 6 wins. But realistically none of the bowl games ...

Re: Tyrin Lawrence reportedly entering the transfer portal
I'm sure it's near impossible to run a program with no transfers but we shouldn't lose players at the rate we do. There will always be a kid that wants more pt, be closer to home, etc... but the fact we have so many core players leaving for equal or lesser programs points to a deeper problem.

Re: Tyrin Lawrence reportedly entering the transfer portal
It's hard to know who or what to blame. Heck, every one of these transfers could represent unique individual circumstances. Malik Dia and Noah Shelby obviously didn't leave for NIL opportunities at Belmont and Rice, respectively. Neither did QMB or Trey Thomas, and I kind of doubt Myles Stute left ...

Casas with a 955 OPS would still put him 4th or 5th on our team this year. And we would have killed for that last season. Guess he just needed a change of scenery.

I'm sure most here remember Matt Jones the QB at Arkansas. Running style reminds me of that.

Re: To school like Vanderbilt??
Just like in recruiting we'll have a hard time with the portal as our options will be much more limited than most other schools. To play devil's advocate though, I've always wondered if that should make things easier as we can focus our attention on fewer guys. Anyways, I still don't like this notio...

Re: One of my few gripes of baseball....
Wins are essentially a meaningless stat except for starters. There are a number of different examples where a reliever gets a win (whether he blew a lead or just pitched a scoreless frame in a random inning in the middle of a game) where he ends up getting a win. Some are preposterous such as your e...

Re: Pop..
I release that the NCAA can make a sane man a bit crazy but I would argue a very different argument. Corbs schedules elite teams to start the season and mixes in a few local cupcakes before SEC starts. If VU Basketball does what many on here are proposing the we would schedule 15 cupcakes to start ...

Re: Vanderbilt vs. Miss State
Well their out of conference was a lot better. Scored a couple good wins on a neutral court (one of which being Marquette who is a 2 seed in the tourney), beat all the teams they should have, and only lost one game to Drake who is also in the tourney. If I look at their overall schedule I'd argue th...

Re: that sucked, but wasn't a complete surprise
Yep. This preseason mentality needs to end. Stack has shown he can develop players and improve as the season goes on. But he needs to get the team playing better earlier and to make sure we win the games we're supposed to win. It's still a subjective process and obviously they value the full body of...

Re: NCAA Tourney/Selection Thread
Probably depends on how much they weigh recent performance vs entire body of work. Over the last month and a half we've played like one of the best teams in SEC. Assuming 5 or 6 SEC teams get in tourney and we've easily been one if the 5 or 6 best teams in conference. But obviously we get hurt by th...
