Re: Mike Wright
As often happens with these threads the subject matter has drifted off. In this case it changed to Seals, who deserves his own thread. As to Mike Wright, I too hated to see him go. From his interviews I thought he is an outstanding man. However, I felt his play was rather one dimensional. In my view...

Re: Conference Musical Chairs
This is, of course, driven by football and the money TV is willing to pay conferences for televising football games. The following may have been discussed in another thread that I overlooked. If so, I apologize. The realignment/consolidation will have a terrible impact on many college sports other t...

Re: Pete Thamel: Sources: Rice targeting VU Asst. AD Tommy McClelland for AD; deal appears close to done
Chancellor Diermeir personally hired Tommy. I wish Rice would have gone after Candice Lee instead. Do you think Candice will ever be an AD At another University? Wow, That statement is quite harsh. My understanding is that you are saying you wish that Candice Lee were gone. I completely disagree. I...

Shortage of tight ends
The Tennessean has a pretty good story this morning on the biggest position battles, and I think she pretty much nails it... Tennessean: Five most intriguing position battles going into fall camp (by Aria Gerson) She didn't mention tight end, where there's a severe lack of depth (in contrast to las...

Re: Commitment (2024) Dontae Carter 6-2 172 WR/DB Cibolo-Steele, TX
How many wide receivers/defensive backs do we plan to sign? It seems like about 15 (a little hyperbole). And no tight ends? Usually we sign 6-8 tight ends, or maybe even more.

Re: Candice Storey Lee Gets Five Year Extension
I think she is a great representative of Vandy. She is smart (PhD from Vandy) and dedicated to Vandy. I also think she has grown on the job, now that she is out from under her predecessor. Her extension is well deserved in my view.

Re: James Strong named as new assistant coach
Something does not seem to quite add up. Strong graduated in 2000. 23 years ago. Yet he has not especially advanced as a coach. In no way do I question his ability as a player at Vandy. Or his dedication to Vandy, although he spent quite a few years elsewhere, for example as an assistant at Belmont....

Re: 21st Century Teams
One of my favorites was Riley LaChance. I thought he was not especially athletic. However, in my view he knew how to use his talents and played within his skill set. I don't know where to place him on the list. He was just one of my favorites because of how he played the game, with lots of heart.

Re: Stackhouse
I have followed this thread and the comments others have made. So there is no misconception in my view Stack is a very good coach. Yet, I do not lay out my criteria. I believe that any attempt at ranking coaches is futile. Unless I have missed it, I have not seen anyone define the criteria for ranki...

On the flip side ... yeah, I wish he was able to do that while keeping some of his temper in check. And I can understand some people responding to some of his outbursts by just flat out not liking the guy. Not where I stand ... but I can see it. I don't mean to start an argument with you. I do want...

Re: Stackhouse
I think that Stack is an outstanding coach. Note, I did not say the best in college basketball. Everyone has faults and weaknesses. Posters sometimes want to point out Stack's. Is there any poster on this board who will claim they are perfect, without fault? I hope no one has that fantasy. Over time...

Re: JJ Bleday
JJ Bleday got the call-up and is in the starting lineup tonight for the Oakland Athletics, batting fifth. The A's are 6-24? Yikes! Did Billy Beane hire Bryce Drew to manage that team? No, the owner of the A's, John Fisher (son of the founder of The Gap), has spent very little on players and forced ...

Re: Update on Pistons' job search from ESPN's Woj
I think that much of the publicity of Stack being interested in the Detroit job has been writers having time on their hands, nothing to do. So, why not call attention to themselves by writing something sensational. It happens all of the time, in sports and elsewhere. It seems logical. Stack return t...

OT: Kansas and the portal
I read that Kansas has five (5) players in the outgoing portal. Plus one declared for the NBA, with maybe one or two more. With incoming freshmen they are projected to have a roster of nine players. To have a full roster they need to hit the portal. Posters on this board complain about or comment on...

OT: NIL on steroids
I read that Arch Manning, the freshman qb at Texas, received $3.7 million in NIL money. Don't know if that claim is true. He has not yet played a down. That is more money than many first year NFL players make. I realize it will be difficult, if not impossible, to limit NIL money. After all, our soci...

Re: Caitlin Clark is A Goddess
She reminds me a lot of Steph Curry. She shoots the 3 from everywhere, with a quick release. She knows how to work her way around the basket, driving with difficult shots. Steph has developed that skill around the basket only in the past few years, after he put on strength. Anyways, Caitlin is a joy...

Re: I'm wondering when we will get our first transfers.
One source I have not seen mentioned is Ivy League graduates. The Ivy League limits players to 4 years eligibility. No redshirt year; no covid year. Princeton, Yale, Harvard and Penn all have some good players, although not in sufficient number to successfully compete in the SEC. Some might graduate...

Re: Vanderbilt Education
I think it does make a difference. Of course, there are a lot of other factors in play- how motivated is the student, what is the field of study, how "academic" was the student-athlete when he/she arrived, etc. Look at Festus- I think his degree and the communication skills he developed a...
